The News, Eats & Events Shaping Western New York

Mayor Sean Ryan has launched the CREATE Task Force, a bold step to strengthen Buffalo’s dynamic arts and cultural landscape.

Standing for Cultivating Resources for Entertainment, Arts, Tourism, and Expression, this new group will develop strategies aimed at making Buffalo a truly arts-friendly city.

Mayor Ryan spotlighted how local artists and organizations are vital to Buffalo’s identity, tourism, and community spirit.

The task force will meet every two weeks through August, gathering insights from across the creative sector to shape new policies and recommendations for City Hall.

This effort comes as data shows millions earmarked for arts and anti-violence programs from 2019-2025 have largely gone unspent, especially impacting small artists and groups serving communities of color.

Meanwhile, state and foundation grants have provided more robust support, boosting dozens of Buffalo’s arts organizations and creators.

Spencerport firefighters Chris Ott and Jack Baker took part in the annual Fight For Air Climb at Buffalo’s Sahlen Field, joining hundreds of others in the push to support lung health.

This year’s event, organized by the American Lung Association, drew around 400 participants — with over 100 firefighters tackling 500 stadium steps in full gear, each carrying an extra 50 pounds.

By hosting the climb at Sahlen Field, organizers reinforced their drive to promote clean air and overall lung health.

The funds raised will aid asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, and critical support groups, extending resources to those affected locally and beyond.

Donations can be made until June 30, supporting either the event as a whole, individual climbers, or corporate teams.

Ott and Baker’s participation shines a light on the strong community spirit and commitment to fighting lung disease in the Spencerport area.
